Chiropractic Training: What it Entails

Find Chiropractic Training in the United States and Canada. If you’re one of the many interested students in search of alternative healthcare education, then a chiropractic training program may be an ideal option for you.

Today, many chiropractic training programs, including undergraduate, graduate and doctor of chiropractic courses are accessible to applicants in a variety of chiropractic schools across North America. In many cases, students may apply for scholarships, financial aid and student loans to acquire this education (including federal Pell grants, and federal Stafford loans); however, it is essential that students review prospective chiropractic training programs as most chiropractic colleges and universities require prerequisite education from a traditional college or school.

Undergraduate studies offered through a number of chiropractic training courses include bachelor degree programs in biology, business, nutrition, psychology and related subjects of study. Graduate studies through chiropractic training courses may involve master’s programs in chiropractic sports science, exercise and fitness, and other associated topics. Most chiropractic training programs offer pre-chiropractic courses (for those who have not yet achieved basic enrollment requirements), and doctor of chiropractic training as well.

The doctor of chiropractic training course entails an extensive curriculum. Students participating in this particular course of study will gain immeasurable knowledge and skills in how to take patient histories, perform physical and neuromuscular examinations, assess patient’s psychological state, effectively communicate, clinically diagnose, apply critical thinking and problem resolution, manage casework, educate patients, and manage business. Additionally, practical chiropractic training will include learning about nutrition, chiropractic history and philosophy, anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, radiology, pathology, microbiology, diagnostic imaging, chiropractic technique and procedures, and other elective courses.

Pain Relief Options: Natural and Medical

At some point in our lives, we will experience some sort of chronic pain that we positively hate and wish to go away. But as much as we seek pain relief immediately and despise the discomfort, the truth is that pain is useful to our survival as it alerts us to problems within our body. Pain also prevents a person from further injuring themselves and so it can be very useful. But, while useful, we all seek pain relief from time to time because-well, it hurts!

Oral Pain Relief

Now when most people think of pain relief, the first thing that comes to mind is aspirin or some other form of oral medication. In fact, we have been conditioned to believe that “you take something for the pain” and this usually involves a pill of some kind. For severe or chronic pain, opiates are most often prescribed. Morphine and heroine are two common opiates, and you will generally see cancer patients given these pain medicines as pain relief of last resort. Opiates are considered highly addictive and generally reserved for terminally ill patients.

Anti-depressants once were prescribed solely to treat depression and other mental illnesses. However, recent research has concluded that anti-depressants do relieve certain types of physical pain and are often used in pain relief applications to help a patient sleep.

Anti-seizure medications are prescribed to deal with sharp or acute pain caused by malfunctioning or damaged nerves. They most often deaden or numb the nerves themselves so pain signals do not reach the brain.

Less severe forms of oral pain relief generally come in the form of aspirin or ibuprofen. Ibuprofen are specifically designed to reduce inflammation and are therefore recommended for things like muscle aches while aspirin are more useful on headaches and fever reduction.

neck pain?

I’m 32 yrs old and I have been having neck pain on the left side of my neck now for about 2 weeks. The pain is really bad at times. If I tilt my head to the left I feel like I have to struggle to get it very far and it causes some added pain. If I tilt my head to the right it feels like it goes further alot easier with less pain. It causes the top of my left shoulder to hurt at times. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what this is or if I need to see a Dr.

What Causes Back Pain?

Back pain is a common problem affecting literally millions of people. It can range from minor, temporary pain, to sustained pain in different parts of the back, neck or shoulders or involve the pinching of nerves, affecting the legs or arms.   The causes of back pain vary and can often be a combination of factors. Some of the factors identified by practitioners are set out below.

Sprains and strains An out-of-condition back or one with pre-existing problems is more vulnerable to soft tissue injuries like sprains and strains. A sprain isa joint injury that involves stretching or tearing of the ligaments. A strainisan injury to muscle or tendons. Stretching a ligament or muscle too quickly can result in a tear. Excessive force and certain repetitive use may also damage muscles.

Disc problems The intervertebral discs are the cushions between our vertebrae. These discs dry out and harden with age, making them susceptible to injury. Common disc complaints involve the disc bulging (prolapse), herniating or even rupturing.

Most disc problems arise from sustained stress or injury and may be caused by back strain (such as when lifting).

Muscle Imbalance/Poor Posture Muscle imbalances often involve certain muscles losing their natural functioning and over-working or being under utilised. This can happen as a result of lifestyle stress and bad habits of body use over a sustained period. Muscle imbalance can lead to or work in tandem with bad posture to result in such back problems as chronic lower back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain or frozen shoulder.

Emotional/neuromuscular causes Sustained stress or emotional trauma can cause muscular tension to be “held” unconsciously in the body leading to back pain.

Structural Problems Structural problems involving the spine can cause back pain. These include the following:

Littleton Chiropractor Offers 5 Quick Tips To Reduce Headaches

There are not many worse feelings than having an intense headache!  You feel unable to move, in loads of pain, and possibly even disoriented.  If you are not suffering from significant health concerns then there are 5 simple suggestions you can do to reduce the pain associated with headaches and make your life more enjoyable.

The first suggestion to reduce a headache may even save you some money.  Not bad!  That suggestion is to reduce your caffeine intake.  While coffee is considered to be the main culprit, many times sodas, teas, energy drinks, and even “indulgence” foods like chocolate (or cocoa) can be a significant contributor to your headaches.  Reducing the intake of these items, and replacing the drinks with lots of clean water can make a major step forward in reducing the magnitude of your headaches.

Next is another suggestion which can save you money and prevent other health concerns!  This suggestion is to stop use of nicotine.  While the main culprit is cigarette smoking, there are many other sources of nicotine intake.  Chewing tobacco, cigars, and even second-hand smoke (at someone else’s house or in bars and clubs) can be a significant contributor to your headaches.  Reducing exposure to nicotine is an intelligent move to make no matter how you do it.

Third is something which many parents preach to their kids since they were born.  If your parents wished you a good night’s sleep then they were teaching you something valuable!  A good night’s sleep, of uninterrupted deep rest, will go a long way toward reduce the duration and intensity of your headaches.  It also helps with your overall health, so do what you can to reduce the stress in your life so that you can get deep, quality sleep.
